Forestry, climate change, and biodiversity conservation technical advisor
Indonesia - March 01, 2010

Chemonics seeks a forestry, climate change, and biodiversity conservation technical advisor for the anticipated USAID-funded Indonesia Forestry and Climate Support project to reduce the threats of deforestation and climate change. The project will assist the Indonesian government to conserve the country's tropical forests, wildlife, and ecosystem. Responsibilities include: build awareness, capacity, and support for a landscape approach to forest management; increase adoption of best management practices in forest management; and increase private sector understanding and compliance.

 Qualifications:
 
  • Graduate degree in forestry management, environmental management, conservation, or related discipline; doctoral degree preferred
  • Minimum 15 years of forestry and biodiversity conservation expertise, particularly related to practices for sustainable forest management and reduction of destructive practices
  • Demonstrated understanding of climate change issues related to forestry and biodiversity required
  • Proven experience in undertaking activities aimed at capacity building and improving policy and regulations, sustainable forest management practices, and data collection/monitoring of forests and wildlife resources
  • Strong interpersonal and written communications skills
  • Work experience in developing countries; experience in Indonesia preferred
  • Strong English writing and speaking skills; proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia and knowledge of Indonesian culture preferred
